From there, visitors can walk toward Ohatsu Tenjin, officially Tsuyuten Shrine, located about five minutes from Higashi-Umeda Station. The shrine is believed to have origins more than 1,300 years ago and became famous as the setting associated with the 1703 love-suicide story dramatized by Chikamatsu Monzaemon in The Love Suicides at Sonezaki. Continue north or east and the atmosphere changes rapidly from shrine precincts to the restaurant and bar streets around Sonezaki, Umeda and Higashi-dori.
