The venue originally opened in Umeda in 1981 and became known as an important live-music destination before closing in 2007. It reopened in its present Doyama location in 2017, retaining the Banana Hall name and its connection with Osaka’s live-music community. The current hall holds approximately 500 people standing, giving it a scale that is substantially larger than a small underground club while remaining intimate compared with an arena. Its programming is notably eclectic: 2026 events include rock, pop, idol, funk, singer-songwriter and touring performances. The venue’s sound system includes a d&b audiotechnik V-Series main PA, with V8 and V12 loudspeakers and V-SUB subwoofers, making it capable of handling both amplified bands and larger touring productions. Another characteristic detail is the elevated rear portion of the audience area, designed to improve sightlines toward the stage. Banana Hall is located at the very end of Hankyu Higashi-dori Shopping Street, placing it directly inside one of Umeda’s busiest nightlife districts. Access is approximately seven minutes from Hankyu Osaka-Umeda Station, eight minutes from JR Osaka Station or Osaka Metro Midosuji Line Umeda Station, seven minutes from Higashi-Umeda Station, and six minutes from Nakazakicho Station Exit 3.

A separate drink fee is normally charged at the entrance, and current 2026 event information commonly lists ¥600. Some event notices explicitly state that the drink fee must be paid in cash, so carrying Japanese yen is strongly recommended. Photography is not governed by one permanent rule for every Banana Hall performance. For example, a 2026 idol event permitted still photography under specific conditions and from designated areas, while other performances may prohibit photography or recording. Visitors should therefore follow the artist’s and promoter’s instructions rather than assuming that smartphone photography is always allowed. Smoking should also be treated according to the current law and venue instructions. Japan’s revised Health Promotion Act, fully enforced in April 2020, generally prohibits indoor smoking except in legally permitted designated smoking areas, and visitors must use only clearly designated spaces where applicable. For luggage, current event information reports 110 small ¥200 lockers and 8 large ¥500 lockers, although other current ticketing information does not list lockers, so availability should be confirmed on the day. 1. Sonezaki Ohatsu Tenjin-dori Shopping Street: From Banana Hall, walk south through the Umeda entertainment district toward Sonezaki. The Ohatsu Tenjin-dori Shopping Street is lined with approximately 100 restaurants and other businesses and remains busy both day and night. Its history is closely connected with Tsuyuten Shrine and the famous story of “Sonezaki Shinju.” It is an excellent place to experience the everyday food-and-nightlife culture of Umeda before or after a concert, particularly for visitors who want something beyond department stores and major commercial complexes.
2. Tsuyuten Shrine (Ohatsutenjin): About five minutes from the Umeda area, Tsuyuten Shrine is said to have been founded more than 1,300 years ago. It became widely known as Ohatsutenjin through Chikamatsu Monzaemon’s Sonezaki Shinju, based on the 1703 double-suicide story of Ohatsu and Tokubei. The shrine’s location inside the dense Umeda cityscape creates a striking contrast between traditional religious space and modern nightlife. The first Friday of each month also features an antique market with approximately 30–40 second-hand dealers.
3. Nakazakicho: Just north of Banana Hall, Nakazakicho offers a completely different urban atmosphere. The area retains many old wooden houses and narrow alleys that survived wartime destruction, and vacant traditional homes were later renovated into cafés, boutiques, galleries and small businesses. Osaka’s tourism authority describes the district as an area where the atmosphere of old Osaka remains. It is approximately a 6–7 minute walk from Banana Hall to Nakazakicho Station, making the neighborhood an easy daytime stop before an evening concert.
